I saw a post about rain gutter book shelves over a year ago. Yesterday I was feeling overwhelmed as I unpacked this year's new curriculum. The new books looked so fascinating, but I was also gazing at last year's books. These books are so full of information and resources and I couldn't stand to send them upstairs to the book cases, for fear that I'd forget all about them. I remembered the rain gutter options, googled it and immediately hit this blog:
Within twenty-four hours, we had gone to Lowes, gathered the supplies and D had these installed. Since then, I have posted photos and links on Facebook and several friends are already on the way to Lowes or plan to make this happen this weekend!
The cost for these three shelves was about $30. The guttering itself is very inexpensive, only $7 for 10 feet. However, the brackets and end caps cost about $2.60 each. If you have the option to do a 10 foot section, that will be the most cost effective, as you only need two end caps for the entire 10 feet. I needed six end caps for the three shelves. At this time, I do not have a space that would accommodate a ten foot shelf, but you better believe, the wheels in my head are spinning! IF we build an addition on our home, our current bedroom would become a library. I could have an entire wall covered with books, plus two lawyer bookcases which currently overflow!
Of course, D may have been able to build real wood shelves for $30. However, it only took him about 20 minutes to put these up. If he had built them, it would have taken an entire day to cut, sand, paint, mount. THIS WORKS FOR US!
If you have questions that are not addressed in the post mentioned above, please feel free to ask! Happy building!

I don't know where I would put them in my home, but my wheels are turning and I'm thinking... :)
