Renew 2012

The week was full of ups and downs. Our whole family entered camp together on Sunday evening, but a nasty stomach bug took us out, one by one. We did our best and gave our all while we had the strength and health to do so.

Here is a list of the projects that were tackled by the 218 students and 100+ adults who participated!

Work Projects Report:
(Thanks for this report Adrian…)
·  17 churches
·  218 students
·  52 full-time adult volunteers
·  100+ Part-time adult volunteers
·  6 construction site volunteers
·  44 different places of service

Together here's what we were able to do:

  • We built 3 wheelchair ramps.
  • We rebuilt and restored 2 porches.
  • We worked on 9 different homes for senior citizens and/or shut-ins. We cleaned, painted, mulched, and weeded. We heard their stories, we laughed, we cried, perhaps most importantly, we let them know they are not forgotten.
  • We provided several thousand pounds of food for our community and beyond.
  • We spend time every day at two different farms, Our Community Farm in Timberville and the Volunteer Farm in Woodstock. Both farms provide food directly to the hungry in our community.
  • We volunteered with 2 food banks right here in Harrisonburg.
  • We loved on 4 different nursing homes, making their facilities beautiful and their residents smile.
  • We volunteered in 7 different schools, appreciating those who work so hard to teach us so much.
  • We spent lots of time with children.
  • We held a Vacation Bible School each day at Merriweather Hills Apartments.
  • We spent time at the Boys and Girls Club, the Gus Bus, and an area preschool.
  • We threw a Community Block Party for several hundred people in the middle of Harrisonburg. We gave out tons of free food, prizes, and most of all, JOY!
  • We served meals at the Salavation Army, cleaned up the creek, and worked at clothes closets and thrift stores.
  • We collected over 7,000 diapers for the Harrisonburg Pregnancy Center.
  • We even made cupcakes and delivered them to our firefighters, police officers, hospital staff, and more.

  • Salvation Army, Mercy House, Children's Museum, White Birch Retirement Community, Sunny Side, Our Community Farm, Boys and Girls Club, Collins Center, Eastern Mennonite University, Volunteer Farm, Blue Ridge Christian School, First Step, Hope Distributed Food Bank, Waterman Elementary School, Avante, Brethren Woods, Blessed Sacrament Food Bank, Harrisonburg Health and Rehab, Keister Elementary School, Gus Bus, King's Way Ministries, Harrisonburg High School, Harrisonburg Pregnancy Center, Equipping the Saints, Kids Harbor, Blacks Run Clean Up.
