In less than 36 hours we will dive into a new school year. Do I feel prepared? Not at all. Do I feel excited? Yes indeed! This year is going to be so very different from last. We are ditching the academic, worksheet driven curriculum and picking up something that is fresh, fun and full of adventure. All three boys will study history, geography, Bible, reading and science with "My Father's World." These unit studies will have many hands on and practical studies. We begin with "Exploring Countries and Cultures." The world map is hung. The globe is handy. The boys' file boxes are set up. The home school room is tidy and organized (if only for a moment), new packs of crayons and sharpened pencils await. For math, we are using "Teaching Textbooks" and for language we chose to stick with A Beka. Spelling Power is a system that teaches lists in just 15 minutes a day. Now that's what I'm talking about. We will begin each day with Bible during breakfast, D will lead us on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We'll be in the classroom, ready to go by 8 each morning. Our day will conclude by noon each day, with a two hour rest time for napping and/or reading. The twins will be playing soccer this year and I hope to get B into another session of First Tee. Whew...I think my head is spinning...
Dear Lord, You know what the future holds. We can only plan and work toward a goal. You know the ins and outs of each day and where we will really be in 24 hours or 24 days. I lay my plans at Your feet. They are just "good ideas" that I have come up with, but if you have a different plan, then I want what You want. Help me to find balance in all things. Help me to slow down, breathe and enjoy the moments without being so driven to get through 180 lessons. I need Your power, Your peace, Your wisdom, Your patience. I love my sons more than life itself and I thank You for giving me this awesome opportunity to be able to stay at home with them. Thank You, thank You, thank You. My deepest desire, when all is said and done, is that we grow to be like You. Each and every day, may we look like You, act like You, think like You and talk like You. Change our hearts, transform our home, let us shine with the light of Your glory...

I am so excited that we are using the same curriculum from MFW AND the same math! I think we're going to go with Alpha/Omega for our language arts. It's computer based and I need something that Annagrace can do on her own for part of the day since I'll be tending to an infant come October!
At the conference that I went to, one of the speakers made a comment about God knowing exactly what our children would be/do when they grow up and how even at this young age the Holy Spirit is guiding us as homeschool moms and dads to teach them all that they need to know to prepare them for the rest of their life. I loved that. I keep reminding myself of that when I have those, "what the heck have I gotten myself into" days!!!
I am so happy to hear you are ditching Abeka!!! I am sooo not a fan of it and I do sooo Love MFW - you guys are gonna have such a fun year!!! I am anxious to hear all about your adventures this year!!!
Your plans sound great! And your prayer for God's heart is even better. :)
Have a wonderful homeschool year!!
