Third Nine Weeks of School (January 25-March 26, 2010)

(I am delayed in posting these details, but better late than never! I am preparing information for our annual evaluation, to be conducted by a dear friend who is also an assistant principal in a local school.)

Bible

Matthew 6:9b-13 "The Lord's Prayer"

We have shared some precious times of reading the Bible together, snuggled up on our green couch. My heart is so deeply moved when I hear my boys reading the Word of God, straight from the pages of their own Bibles that they are so proud to have! Lord, help us to hide Your word in our hearts, that we might not sin against You! We have also been remembering to pray on the armor (Ephesians 6), as the battle in our home has been intensified and we see the need to engage in the battle. Reciting Psalm 23 brings great comfort to our hearts, as we declare the Lord to be our shepherd, the only One who is really looking out for us!

My heart has also been encouraged to hear the prayers that my boys pray over the people of Haiti. Our family has many ties and connections in that devastated land and we want to do what we can to help the people of Haiti. They participated in a benefit/night of worship that our family/worship team assisted with. Over $3900 was raised to bless a ministry at ground zero in Haiti.

Writing/Reading

Each of the three boys is gifted in the area of writing. However, I do need to encourage and push them a bit to get them started. BC is writing weekly entries in a series we are calling "Hedgie Tales," documenting events in the life of his pet hedgehog. The twins write one or two entries each week in their journals, recording events in their lives, memory verses, prayers, etc.

The boys continue to read almost every day. It has been so exciting to see JI grow in his reading skills this year. Since he has discovered the "Animal Pride" series, he finally has a set of chapter books that interest him and that are on his reading level. His reading aloud skills have improved so much as well. CJ enjoys reading the Boxcar series, BC continues to devour Hardy Boys and any other book he can get his hands on.

Physical Education

The third quarter of the year is by far the most difficult one for keeping three little boys active. We did have a lot of snow this winter, so the boys would bundle up and go outside for hours each day, after seat work was completed. They built snow forts, shoveled snow, wrestled in the snow and got plenty of exercise. On rainy or muddy days, they stayed inside and used the Wii to get some energy out.
