Dear Brandt,
You are becoming a man, right before my very eyes. I am astounded by how insightful and witty you are, your humor is way beyond your years. You keep me on my toes! I have enjoyed watching you take care of your younger cousins this year. Each time we’re with them, you take over and tend to their needs. There are not many young men your age who would give a newborn or toddler the time of day.
I know this year has had its trials and we have stood through them. I pray that you will let Jesus guide you and speak to your heart, all the days of your life. Stay close to Him and let Him heal the places that are hurting. You have so many gifts and abilities, I know He has big plans for you! I love you, Mommy

Dear Heather,
You have been strong this past year. Relationships, including ours, have been rough and painful yet, you continue to weather the storms. I am grateful for your courage and persistence. You have not given up and I will not either. I don’t always get the lessons I should be learning and the progress seems so slow. Thank you for your grace and mercy and for continuing to help me on my way. You are an incredible mother and wife. Our family has never gone without food to eat or clothes to wear. You have made our house a safe home. You are a friend I can talk to and I enjoy listening to your stories of relationships you are investing in. You are warm and kind. Many others have benefited from your care and efforts to minister to their hearts. You are warm and passionate about our family, its physical health as well as its spiritual health. I can always count on you to be a compass for Godliness. Our children will be successful because of your instruction, love and care. They know you love them and want God’s best for them. I too know that you want God’s best for me. You are a faithful companion and have walked with me through a lot of unpleasantness. You are faithful to God and the callings he has placed on your heart. Thank you for your love and thank you for your friendship.
I love you, Darrel

“Lead me with strong hands Stand up when I can't Don't leave me hungry for love chasin' dreams What about us? Show me you're willin' to fight That I'm still the love of your life I know we call this our home But I still feel alone."—“Lead Me” by Sanctus Reel

Thank you for raising a wonderful daughter in Heather. She has become a wonderful mother and wife because of your influence in her life. Thank you for your support of our family and for helping to get us through a rough year. I am grateful for the way you love our boys and how you help Heather and I care for each other. God has gifted you with the love of music. Thank you for using it to His glory and for allowing us to share it with you. Thank you for the help and support you have given me. I am grateful for the wisdom you speak into my life and for its timeliness. Thank you for encouraging me, holding me accountable and for being a Godly example for me to follow.
I love you, Darrel
Dear Dad,
Thank you for all the ways you have blessed our family this year. Thanks for opening your heart and home to us in the times of trouble, when we needed a safe place to run to. Thanks for loving my boys and being a shelter for them. Thank you for using your gifts of friendship and kindness to touch so many lives. I know you have felt defeated and knocked down so many time, but I am blessed that you get up and keep trying. There will be so many who will stand at heaven’s gates one day and share of how you’ve made a difference. That might be hard to believe now, but it is true. You life makes a difference in the world around you.
I watched in wonder as you stood by your sister through the darkest of nights. You were faithful and you didn’t leave her in her time of need. You have the love and light of Jesus inside you and He poured through you day after day. Even now, you continue to persevere and be there for her. I found such comfort in knowing you were there when I went to the hospital, I felt safer when you were. I appreciated our early morning phone calls each day that gave us a place to process and find strength for the day’s challenges.
I pray that the new year will bring new vision and hope to your heart. Don’t forget, His plans are for your good. His plans are to prosper you and never to harm you. He will give you hope and a future. Keep loving Him and loving others…the rest is just “stuff”!
I love you, Heather
