Fall Overhaul

The rain just keeps on coming. We need it, so who's complaining? Soccer games were cancelled, so we stayed in all day long. D made the boys pancakes, we started on the chores...by lunch, we were still in over our heads. I did a bunch of odds and ends (four loads of laundry, dishwasher, vaccuming, dusting, cleaning bathrooms), while running back to the boys' room to supervise a major overhaul. The three share a room. Once upon a time, it was a nice size and had plenty of space for two toddlers and a four year old. Now, not so much. The Legos take over. Each boy is a pack rat and keeps 5-10 stuffed animals, plastic toys and novelties from birthday parties, Chuck E. Cheese and arcades, boxes of tissues, puke buckets (these are supposed to be kept empty "just in case," but usually they are full of treasures), extra pillows and blankets for their animals...I ask..."Where are the boys going to sleep?" So, today I gave them each two recycled pencil boxes to stash their hordes, stating "When those are full, you must choose what stays and what goes." Like I really have the heart. Meanwhile, I am sneaking as much into the trash can as my conscience will allow...Bottle tops, the caps of acorns, teeth from dead animals (I am not making this stuff up), rocks, old glow stick bracelets, 10 different bouncy balls, etc, etc. Oh my. For anyone who knows me, you are no doubt laughing because you know how I detest clutter and chaos. It's a stretch for me to "allow" all the junky stuff in the house and I use a "Toy Purgatory" to filter it out. I hold onto items for awhile, in a spot that I know, and if they don't ask for it in about two months, it's gone...But I feel so guilty. The same delima applies for works for art and school papers. I don't want to damage my children, but in my defense, we are trying to live, play, school and run two businesses in 1,500 square feet...

I also got in a three mile cardio/aerobic workout, cooked lunch and dinner, caught up with a few good friends on the phone and spent time reading and calling out spelling words with the boys. Am I allowed to go to bed BEFORE them??

From a dear friend...

I had to laugh.....

We not only agree on the puke buckets, we both have that temporary (pergatory) spot that toys go to before they are gotten rid of for good. I do the SAME THING...if nothing is said about the item in a couple months, out it goes. :) Too Funny. I did have this one big bowl that sits up high that all of the little "treasures" temporarily find a home before they are discarded and I was HORRIFIED one day to find out that J had taken the bowl down because one of the kids thought something was in there and they were all digging through stuff that I didn't want them to see. I was SOOO busted! Clueless Men......needless to say I was back to square one with those items. ;)
