I'm Gonna Miss This...

Another week flew by. Where did it go? I posted "You're Gonna Miss This" on my Facebook account today, I will try to get my sister to tell me how to add it here. She's my techie when I get stuck on things. A beautiful song, it makes me cry every time I hear it. We all need to slow down, live in the moment, seize the day. One day, not too far from now, we're gonna miss what we have right here, right now. I will miss getting up each day to look over lesson plans and coax sleepy little boys out of bed. I will miss turning on the TV and allowing them to watch one show while mindlessly "eating" a bowl of cereal. Again, more coaxing and comments like "Boys, we really need to get our day started." I will miss sitting on the couch watching the Bible lessons while cuddling with all three (how do moms spread themselves out, so they they can hold or at least touch every child at the same time? For me, it means sitting in the middle of two while holding the third on my lap. How much longer will that work?). I will miss keeping them all on track for the next three to four hours (really?). I will miss raising my voice because I've had it with their distracting ways, their mischievous antics. This time of year is extra hard on everyone, because it is so cold out and they don't get to run as much. We'll learn to be more creative with that, boys must be free! I will miss watching them light up when they get a new concept or can answer a question that is sent their way. I will miss seeing the sheer satisfaction on their faces when they get a good grade on a test. I will miss the lunch time hour that is full of food that is hot and not cold sandwiches! (Another favorite perk to home schooling) I will miss (and I mean, really miss) the afternoon hours of downtime when they play so beautifully together while I get to rest. Or the days when I tell them a nap is in order and my big boys, almost eight years old, willingly fall asleep in five minutes flat. There is nothing more peaceful than a sleeping child. I will miss trying to come up with creative, inexpensive and nutritious dinners and sitting down to find out how many dislike what I've chosen. I will miss the evenings when we are at home, the dishes are done and we settle in for a game, a movie, or an episode of "Extreme Makeover Home Edition." I will miss yelling at the boys "Brush your teeth, you're taking too long. You should have been in bed thirty minutes ago" and then moving on to the "Thankfuls" and bedtime prayers...Wow, I have so much to be thankful for. Even on the bad days, I know that this is a precious time and I'm gonna miss it.

Lyrics for "You're Gonna Miss This" as performed by Trace Atkins

She was staring out the window of their SUV
Complaining, saying "I can't wait to turn 18"
She said "I'll make my own money, and I'll make my own rules"
Mama put the car in park out there in front of the school
Then she kissed her head and said "I was just like you"

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

Before she knows it she's a brand new bride
In a one-bedroom apartment, and her daddy stops by
He tells her "It's a nice place"
She says "It'll do for now"
Starts talking about babies and buying a house
Daddy shakes his head and says "Baby, just slow down"

Cause you're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

Five years later there's a plumber workin' on the water heater
Dog's barkin', phone's ringin'
One kid's cryin', one kid's screamin'
And she keeps apologizin'
He says "They don't bother me.
I've got 2 babies of my own.
One's 36, one's 23.Huh, it's hard to believe, but...

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this"
